The Little Church Tea Garden
Halfway between Durban and Johannesburg is the Little Church of Van Reenen. It is considered “the best kept secret on the M3” and the smallest Roman Catholic Church in the world with only has eight seats. It was built in 1925, as a tribute to Llandaff Matthews who was killed while trying to save eight miners – each commemorated with a seat in the building. There is a tea garden catering for children and pets. Couples looking for something different can use the Little Chapel for their wedding ceremony.
A hike up Cathedral Peak is definitely a vertical endeavour. The 19 km and 12-hour hike is ideal for seasoned hikers who have the stamina and grit to make it through. Located in the Mlambonja and Mdodelelo Wilderness areas, the mountain is 3000 m above sea level. This area is home to over 4000 paintings found over 17 sites, making it the richest rock art area in the world. You can do this steep walk guided, some tours groups break the hike over two days with a night spent in one of the many caves in the area.
