Oaklands Country Manor is proud to announce that we’ve recently embarked on a process to go off the grid – starting with a network of solar-powered geysers!
One of the reasons we decided to set up shop in the Drakensberg was beautiful, untouched terrain of the areas surrounding Oaklands. As you can imagine, keeping the environment in a pristine condition is one of our top priorities. The last thing we’d want is for our visitors who have finally made it out to the famed Great Drakensberg Escarpment being met with decay…
You may have also experienced (or heard about, if you’re from overseas) – South Africa is currently in the middle of an electricity shortage. This means that every so often, the power is shut off to ensure that the country’s electricity grid doesn’t take to much strain. We also want to help our buckling energy grid in this regard, as well. Imagine the energy relief that would result if all 53 million of us made our geysers solar powered?
Load Shedding? We’ve got Solar Power!
While the preservation of the environment is held in very high esteem, so is the comfort of Oaklands’ visitors. As you may have experienced (or heard about if you’re from overseas), South Africa has been plagued by an electricity shortage. This means that every so often, the power is shut off to ensure that the country’s electrical grid doesn’t take strain.
In a bid to pre-empt load shedding and save the environment, we have endeavoured to fit every room at Oaklands with solar-powered geysers. This way even when the power is down, a hot shower will go a long way in picking the spirit up.
Working with the Environment
At Oaklands, we work to bring the environment to life in as natural a way as possible. We’ve done away with green house gas-emitting petrochemicals in favour of the world’s oldest fertiliser – worms.
