THE ROUTE - DAY 1

The following detailed descriptions of each day’s route is a guide as to what to expect.

From Oaklands we head out through the main gate and then back around the Oaklands world class Polo Fields. The first 1.5km’s is relatively flat and will get the legs warmed up as well as split up the field slightly before we enter the first section of single track for the day.

The first climb starts at the 3km mark just above the Top Bass Dam and is a relatively short sharp climb which takes us to the top of the plateau. From here we start heading towards the escarpment with magnificent views towards Van Reenen and into KwaZulu Natal.

Stock up at the First Water Point which comes at the 8km mark. Here you will have a chance to look back at the Escarpment and take in the views and sights of Van Reenen & the Free State as well as stock up for the second half of the race.

From Water Point 1 we climb all the way up to Water Point 2 this is when the legs will want to start turning for home.

Water Point 2 will offer you a quick stop to refresh before the district road take you all the way back to Oaklands. Be prepared for a short sharp downhill into the finish before you stock up on the refreshments, delicious lunch and afternoon entertainment on offer at Oaklands. Take a chance to relax and enjoy the afternoon with us at Oaklands and prepare of what we have in store for you on Day 2.

  • THE ROUTE - DAY 2

Day 2 is a day of two halves.

From Oaklands we head out through the main gate and again we have a chance to warm up the legs and split up the field before the first climb of the day.

We cross over the district road and onto a cattle path that climbs for about 1.5km’s to the top of the ridge. We then head down to the river and for the next 3km’s we wind our way through the trees and along the single track and cattle paths.

Crossing the river twice before we reach Water Point 1 at the 7km mark. Stock up here as the work now really starts for the day. Water Point 2 at the 9km mark gives you a chance for a quick refill stop before we climb up to the highest point of the race at the 10km Mark.

From the highest point of the day it gets slightly easier as everything is now more or less downhill to the finish at Oaklands. We link up with the district road again that will take you all the way back to Oaklands. Stop for a picture at the top of the ridge before the short sharp downhill into the finish and once again you can stock up on refreshments, a delicious lunch and enjoy the rest of the day with us at Oaklands.
