Oaklands is proud to announce our recent Eat Out Award for Best Country-Style Eatery in KZN. The accolade was awarded to us as a result of the ratings and reviews we’ve received from visitors to our manor over the last year.
Marketing manager at Oaklands, Simon Tully, explains that the coup came as a complete surprise, “We had no idea that we were in the running for an award and were totally taken by surprise, much to our delight! We are honoured and aim to serve to food that delights in its honestly and simplicity.”

From the views to the food, Oaklands brims with countryside charm. Nestled in the lush foothills of the Drakensberg, we’re blessed with a bounty of ingredients from local farms and homegrown delights from our very own permaculture gardens. With access to such fresh produce, the Oaklands has developed an ethos of veld-to-plate. By only sourcing local, free-range and organic food like lamb, cheeses and veggies, the chefs bring the best of the KZN countryside to every meal.
Chefs de Country Cuisine
Kathy’s Kitchen’s executive chef, Kathy Romer-Lee, spent eight years building a dedicated team, transferring her skill set onto members of the local Drakensberg community. Her fantastic head chef, Johnson Ndlovu, has lived on the Oaklands farm his whole life, working his way up from the gardens to the kitchen’s top spot. The Eat Out award is well-deserved recognition of her team’s hard work, dedication and refinement of country-style cooking.
