This winter, don’t let the nip in the air send you into hibernation. With horse riding, mountain biking and hiking trails all around, why not escape to the mountains for a fun-filled family holiday? Oaklands Country Manor has plenty of warming activities…
Hiking into the Drakensberg
You don’t have to climb to the snow-capped Drakensberg peaks to view its exquisite surrounds. You can do that right from Oaklands! Our grounds boast a number of leisurely walking and rock-climbing trails, as well as informative guided hikes – the latter is ideal for families eager to learn a thing or two about the Drakensberg’s history, landscape and the local cultures.
Horse Riding for the Whole Family
Soak in the Drakensberg scenes on horseback. Whether you’re a first-time rider or an expert in the saddle, Oaklands’ experienced staff will escort you (in true royal fashion) on outrides along trails on the property and beyond. Accommodating up to eight people of all ages, outrides lend themselves as the perfect family activity – enough room even for the in-laws. Keen birders will be able to spot a variety of indigenous bird species along the way.
Fresh Air in the Outdoor Play Area
Oaklands’ child-friendly play area will keep your children entertained all holiday. Parents can sit back and relax knowing their children are safe and supervised on trampolines, jungle gyms, a tree house and monkey-rope swings – all in the fresh, open air. Child-specific guided walks and pony outrides are also on offer should mom and dad wear themselves out during any of the other activities.
And when all is done, why not cosy on up in one of our warm-as-home rooms? All our rooms are fitted with fireplaces to keep you comfortable when the temperature drops. Our family double suites accommodate four people in king-sized and twin beds, with two bathrooms (so no one has to wait to long for the bath), two hearths and a private veranda.
What’s that you were saying about a mid-year break? Head down to the Drakensberg…our doors are always open.
