What do pickled chilli and chakalaka competitions, feasts made from the freshest produce and garden tours have in common? They’re just three parts of a successful autumn harvest – with a unique Oaklands twist.
The Oaklands community will be hosting its first annual harvest festival on the 6th and 7th of May. This means one homemade-jam-packed weekend, celebrating the huge shift towards sustainable living which has been embraced by the Oaklands community and Oaklands Country Manor.
A FESTIVAL OF FOOD, FAMILY AND FUN
Naturally our programme is packed with family-friendly festivities that everyone can enjoy. From food contests and egg-and-spoon races, to natural fashion shows, pony-trotting, dog shows and dog-on-lead foot races – fun is ultimately the name of the game.
What’s more is that you and your kids can learn more about vegetable gardens and healthier nutrition with a tour of our permaculture garden and kitchen, followed by a delicious feast.
IT HAS BEEN A JOURNEY
Two years ago the Oaklands village embraced the idea of permaculture after an interactive five-day workshop. Community members of all ages were introduced to these gardening principles and quickly embraced them, creating sustainable sources of delicious nutritious food.
This approach is practised everyday at Oaklands Country Manor, where we grow the freshest herbs, fruit and vegetables in our garden, transform them into exquisite meals in our kitchen and serve them beautifully on your plate.
And it’s been so successful for the community that many of the community members who attended this initial workshop now work at Oaklands Country Manor and will be showing off the fruits of their labour at the harvest festival.
YOU ARE INVITED
The harvest festival is open to the public. Bring your family and friends and enjoy the festivities.
Why not make a weekend getaway of it and book your stay at Oaklands here?
